The soul of any successful business is creativity. There is no science to cultivating creativity. That means that some people struggle when it comes to getting new ideas or developing concepts. If you find it hard to come up with ideas and notions, you are not a naturally creative person. For people who find it difficult, there are a few solutions. You can’t force creativity, but you can do a few things to make it easier to be creative. Here are some awesome ways to boost creativity in the workplace.
Surround yourself with blue and green
Studies have found that the colors blue and green help to boost your creativity. Experts believe that the colors promote a calm mind. When your mind is resting, you will find it easier to come up with new ideas. Try decorating your office space with blue and green. Many people shy away from these colors, because they think they are cold colors. If you find a rich, sea green, you will see that it’s not cold at all.
Always carry a notebook
Ideas come to us when we least expect them. When an idea strikes, you need to have somewhere to write it down. Carrying a notebook with you at all times means that you can write down ideas as they come to you. There is nothing worse than having an idea and losing it. Make sure you also keep a notebook next to your bed. Often ideas come to us in the moments before we sleep. When we are relaxing in bed, our minds begin to wander. That is the best time to think of new ideas.
Ask an expert for help
Many people think that creativity is a personal experience. Whilst sometimes that is true, you can share the experience with others should you want to. Digital / creative consultants can help to cultivate your ideas and help them grow. Having an expert help you through the process will make thinking of new ideas easier. Knowing that you need to share or present your ideas to the group, will mean that you spend more time developing ideas.
Practice free writing
Free writing is a wonderful way to overcome the block in your creativity. If you are struggling to think, you should try this exercise and see whether it helps. All you need is a pen and a piece of paper. Take half an hour or even just ten minutes and begin writing. Don’t set yourself a topic to write about or anything. You don’t need to write about a specific project or your work. Instead, just start writing and see what comes out of it. When you write without a subject matter, you pour your thoughts out onto the paper. It may surprise you to see what you have been thinking about at the moment. When you practice free writing, you open your mind.
Drink a cup of coffee
Caffeine helps to boost creativity. When you drink coffee, you become alert. When your brain is alert, you are more likely to come up with some fantastic ideas. People who drink coffee every morning are more creative than people who drink tea. When you get to work, ensure that you have your morning coffee. It might make a world of difference.
Don’t put too much pressure on yourself
One of the main things that stunts creativity is pressure. If you have a big presentation coming up or need a new idea for a meeting, you might find that you put loads of extra strain on yourself. Doing so won’t help you to be creative. In fact, when people are under pressure, they find it hard to think about things. Instead, try and relax. Take a break. Stop thinking about the project. An idea will come to you when you least expect it.
