Installation Instructions for Macintosh users
System Requirements
- 256 MB RAM (512 MB preferred)
- Mac OS X version 10.3.1 or later
- Java version 1.4.1 or later
- Java 3D and Java Advanced Imaging Update 1.0 for the Macintosh
Installation Instructions
In the directions below, "GelBuddyxxxxxxxx.dmg" refers to the most recent version of GelBuddy available from the GelBuddy download page.
Step 1 (System 10.3.X only): Update your Java VM
- Go to
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/java.html
and follow the directions to upgrade your system to Java 1.4.1 or later.
Clicking on the download link (labeled "41 MB") will start the installation
process. (This step is superfluous if your system already has an up-to-date
Java installation.)
Step 2 (System 10.3.X only): Install Java 3D and Java Advanced Imaging Update 1.0 for the Macintosh
Step 3: Install GelBuddy
- Read the license agreement and follow the directions on from the GelBuddy download page to download GelBuddyxxxxxxxx.dmg.
- Drag the FHCRC double-helix logo icon to place a copy of GelBuddy on your desktop or in your applications folder
(not the toolbar dock).
- At this point you may now discard the .dmg file by dragging the disk-drive-shaped-icon marked "GelBuddyxxxxxxxx".
to the trash can.
- If you wish to run GelBuddy from the applications dock, drag the GelBuddy icon (double-helix logo) from the applications folder to the dock. (This
doesn't actually move the file, it just creates a link from the dock to the applications folder.) You should now be able to run GelBuddy by clicking
on the double-helix logo on the dock.
Step 4: Run GelBuddy
