This is a figure of the active site of the Kar3 motor domain. The image shows the nucleotide binding site in the orientation that is commonly used for the myosin proteins and G-proteins. A molecule of Mg-ADP is shown as well as "omit map" density derived from one round of least squares refinement in the absence of the nucleotide and metal ion.
The conserved elements are colored in the figure. The P-loop is represented in green. The P-loop residue Thr481, which coordinates the Mg ion, is also shown. The Switch I and Switch II elements are shown in yellow and magenta, respectively. The order of the strands, from left to right in the figure, is beta 6, beta 7, beta 3, beta 8, beta 1. This view is approximately 180 degrees rotation from the view of the entire motor domain.
