Motifs Conserved among Kinesin Motor Domains

Six motifs (named motifs A-F below) are recognized in each of the 106 complete kinesin motor domain sequences. An additional two motifs, X and Y, are found in most kinesin proteins. The motifs from individual sequences are aligned below and each block of aligned motifs was used to create a sequence logo (more about logos). By similar methods, kinesin motor domain motifs are also found in the Blocks and Prints databases. These motifs can be positioned on the 3D structure of human kinesin.

These differences are indicated 1) with dashes (---), when the motif cannot be found, 2) in lower case, when the aligned region of the protein clearly differs from the conserved residues in other members of the family, and 3) in square brackets([ ]), when the corresponding motif can be identified in the genomic sequence, but is not a part of the predicted open reading frame.
