Axial S1 Motion

Fanning all 26 rebuilt S1 from one site on actin results in a comet-like cloud of density that suggests the range of axial motions of a myosin head during a power stroke. Actin is green and blue. The motor domains (and heavy chains) of the S1 rebuilt to match crossbridge envelopes are in red. The light chain domain (LCD) lever arm is highlighted by the regulatory light chain in cyan and the essential light chain in pink. The position of the end of the power stroke is shown by unmodified rigor S1 in yellow. The LCDs of myosin heads attaching early in this hypothetical power stroke are angled toward the M-line and their motor domains (MD) are not at the rigor angle. By the end of the stroke, the LCD and MD positions of the rebuilt S1 are angled closer to the Z-line and match rigor S1.
