Note that in FASTA format (the one shown above) each sequence is preceded by a line begining with a ">" followed by a unique name of 10 characters or fewer (the rest of the line can contain any other information you wish). The sequences can be written in upper or lower case, in lines of different lengths. The sequence lines can include blanks and numbers, they will be ignored.
