Here is an example of a single sequence in FASTA format:
>HMGI_HUMAN 106 bases, 2032 checksum.
SESSSKSSQPLASKQEKDGTEKRGRGRPRKQPPVSPGTALVGSQKEPSEV
PTPKRPRGRPKGSKNKGAAKTRKTTTTPGRKPRGRPKKLEKEEEEGISQE
SSEEEQ
or
>my_seq PCR exp 12
1 NVYHDGACPE GDIFYPGYCP RKREIHQLLV AFNQSLVTPT
51 QDEEKILSDI QRACLQIAED LKHLNPFTG
Note that in FASTA format (the one shown above) each sequence is preceded by a line begining with a
">" followed by a unique name of 10 characters
or fewer (the rest of the line can contain any other information
you wish). The sequences can be written in upper or lower case, in lines of
different lengths. The sequence lines can include blanks and numbers, they
will be ignored.
